About Us

Where it started

We started out in shipping containers. It offered a framework for solving a problem that could scale. So we started with a solution looking for a problem. If a problem existed that could be solved with metal boxes then our solution could scale like a software since there’s millions of them already in circulation. We had no idea the long winding road that starting with a solution looking for a problem would ultimately take.

What we’re trying to solve

We learned that as cool as shipping containers were, the underlying magic about them was they gave people the confidence that they could build with them on their own. Early people who contacted us were successful, career-driven people looking to put sweat equity into their homes and saw shipping containers as a solution. The question was, why? We believe three core reasons:

  • Construction has grown in costs beyond the scope of expectations for the uninitiated.

  • Labor is exceedingly hard to find that is reliable or can be objectively vetted.

  • People are becoming more inclined to have creative input and personal identity injected into their domains and need empowering ways to have more of this within their spaces.

Why this is important

Two things resulted from our analysis. Firstly, people who don’t know how to build needed to be more involved so we needed a way to accamodate these new owner-builders. Secondly, there were applications for this solution beyond shipping containers. Through constraint-led design, we engineered a prefabricated wall and ceiling panel system to get the high-knowledge redundant rough-in trade work out of the way while oversimplifying the high touch finish work while still in a panel that was adaptable to the installation enivornment.

How we want to affect the change

The construction system is broken for updating existing spaces. This matters because urban density has exploded causing new construction spaces to live and own to be unattainable for entry-level buyers. Additionally, the future of remaking existing spaces more environmentally resilient and sustainable written into law is at our doorstep. We believe these challenges in the startup space for the remodeling industry need many more applicants paving new paths. It is why we’re here and what we’re trying to do.

The Founder

Wes has been involved in construction throughout his entire life. From early childhood he was taught the value of hard work from a family of Do It Yourselfer’s to save money and get the job done right, regardless if it was a leaking toilet or remodeling a dry-docked worn out houseboat with his dad on the weekends. From there working in family-run construction contractors for theater retrofits, rolling into framing new houses, getting a degree in Building Construction from Virginia Tech, flipping houses, owning investment property and being an early host of Airbnb (one of the first 15 listings in his state at the time) Wes has been along for the ride as the world of renovation and repurposing has changed and the dire need of solutions within that context have surfaced and scaled into a challenge to the masses.
